TOWNLANDS OF NEWTOWNHAMILTON

UMMERINVORE

Location

Ummerinvore is a townland of 210 statute acres, and 16 perches five miles north-east of Cullyhanna. It is bounded on the north by Tullyogallaghan, on the east by the Parish of Forkhill, on the south by Roxborough and on the west by Dorsey Hearty. In the Tithe Applotment Books of 1825 the total area of the townland is shown as 109 acres and 6 perches (Plantation Irish measure)

Census of Ireland 1901

The Census enumerated 50 people in 13 households; a ratio of 3.8 persons per household. The households occupied a total of 36 rooms; a ratio of 2.8 rooms per household and 1.4 persons per room. One household occupied 5 rooms, nine occupied 3 rooms, one occupied 2 rooms and two occupied a single room.

Native Irish Speakers

There were one Irish speaker; Peter McParland, agricultural labourer, 80, born in Co. Armagh.
